With the upcoming final visit to Newquay it is time to look back over the season and be able to make an informed prediction, if at all possible when it comes to a surf event?
This time last year although they could not influence the final overall results it was father and son combination of Greg and Kieron Richardson in Team Suffolk who came away with the Grand Prix win and they are certainly set this year to challenge for that again as well as the ZCR50 National Championships title.
Bluesheets I are currently leading the title race but with the best pilot of the last three seasons sidelined from an injury picked up in the final at Barry Island, Craig Davis will be a very interested spectator as 2010 Rookie champion Jack Weller takes his place.
Standing alongside Craig will also be the pilot (Daren Ford) of Speedy Hire currently lying a very close fourth place and just 5 points behind team mates Angry Hornet in third, Daren has just returned from honeymoon and we are sure his new wife Claire will be pleased to have him on the beach after his exploits in Edinburgh rather than taking on the Fistral surf.
And what of the heavier teams? The ZCR50X class has seen some stunning and consistent performances from the Exe Jets, Rob Wickham is determined to secure this new title and along the way has also picked up his first Grand Prix wins in Gosport, Edinburgh and Barry Island on countback from the lighter crews.
Barring some random disaster or it will take career best performances from team mates Live Wire or rookies Team Essence to grab the title from them.
All we can be certain that if the surf is big then there will be lots of red flags will we see more than the 14 we had on the last day of the season last year - who knows?
So wrap up warm, bring a camera and have a great couple of days watching the racing and enjoying the evening events.
And finally we must say a big thank you to everyone at Fistral for helping us to put on such a great free event especially the RNLI and the recently formed Newquay BID team.
