LIVERPOOL ZAPCAT GRAND PRIX

Zapcat racing will hit the River Mersey on the 8th-9th June for the Liverpool water festival.

The teams will have a new challenge, As this venue will see longer heats and a longer mixed endurance final. The Mersey can always be unpredictable with it extreme currents.

The current leaders of the Light weight Speedy hire Daren Ford and Kelly Allen may well find the extreme conditions of the river tougher than they may expect.

However the current heavy weight leaders RM State of Mind Richie Lake and Andy Farmer may well thrive on the longer races and the unpredictable condition.

Come and join the weekend on the Mersey for some action packed extreme powerboat racing.

… first race for 2013 season

Zapcat racing will open the 2013 season at a brand new location for the circuit at Boscombe, Dorest.

The weekend of 27-28th April will see intense powerboat racing as for the first time in its twelve-year history, Zapcat will come to Boscombe Seafront, taking place between the iconic Boscombe pier and the unique feature that is Europe’s only man-made surf reef.

This fantastic family event will see some incredibly close racing at the Best Beach in Britain, sitting in Bournemouth’s seven-mile stretch of golden sand and beautiful beaches.

Taking place over Saturday and Sunday, racing will take place in the form of heats for two classes; the 50 ‘Lightweights’ and 50x ‘Heavyweights’. Up to twelve boats per heat will race for places in the final, when the distance between first and second can be as close as a boat-length, as at four meters, the winner can be anyone’s call.

However, this event doesn’t only take place on the weekend however, as a corporate and press day will be taking place on Friday 26th April, giving clients and press all the fun of racing right before the event takes place as they fulfill the role of ‘co-pilot’ while the pilot uses their skill and experience to navigate the course.

The Friday evening will also feature an open night at the Boscombe surf bar, where racers and their families will be enjoying a barbeque and a relaxed atmosphere before the tension builds when the flags come down for the weekend ahead.

Zapcat racing is free to view, and is a great way to spend part of the weekend for all the family as it combines fierce competition with a strong family spirit.

Racers will come from all over the country from North to south, and from all walks of life, from office workers to Royal Marines.

It is the aim of Zapcat to constantly build an inclusive family event, and as always to make viewing free.

Why not come down to Boscombe Seafront on 27 & 28th April for a fun filed action-packed family day?

The NE1 Zapcat Grand Prix held for the first time in August this year, the first powerboat racing since the Eighties on the River Tyne, is to be shown this weekend on Sky Sports in the weekly Motor sports magazine programme Max Power that goes behind the scenes at major events, focusing on everything from touring car races to single-seater events.

Included are highlights of two days of racing including action from the preliminary heats and the Round 7 & 8 individual class finals along with interviews with race teams and the GP winners Richie Lake and Andy Farmer in RM State of Mind.

The NE1 Zapcat Grand Prix was the only televised GP in the 2012 National Zapcat Championship series and shows just how exciting city centre venues can be and how well the Newcastle Quayside lends itself to great spectator viewing and the large crowds who supported the event.

To win in a sport whether amateur or professional there is a certain mixture of essential ingredients required including skill, passion, drive and fitness but in most motorsports there is also the financial factor and technical edge needed as well as teamwork from your support crew.

In Zapcat Racing the financial factor has never been a major issue as it is still one of the lowest cost motorsports there is, and the technical edge is restricted by severely limiting the modifications allowed in this true one-design class and for a decade one of the biggest areas of discussion has been the combined crew weight...

Zapcat Racing kicked off their 2012 National Championship season at Fistral Beach in April with what could only be described as a lively event!

Taking the decision to reduce the number of heats and laps due to the 25mph onshore winds over Sunday came as a relief to both competitors and the safety team.  The outcome was also a first, with shared Grand Prix honours going to Team Essence and RM State of Mind despite every count back permutation possible!

Fast forward through an amazing Summer of Sport, Zapcat Racing has travelled to Sandbanks -  Poole, the River Foyle in Derry - Northern Ireland as part of the Clipper Homecoming Festival, to Barry Island - South Wales, the River Tyne - Newcastle and returns to the surf of Fistral next week.

Zapcats have also featured in the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations on the Thames as well as the Gadget Show filmed at Fistral with presenters Jason Bradbury and Pollyanna Woodward as co-pilots.
